Profile
Hello and welcome to Connect to Autism
My name is Anne Marie Gallagher and I am a qualified consultant speech and language therapist who has dedicated her work career to the diagnostic assessment and intervention for autistic adults.
I have over 25 years experience of working within the NHS, working with autistic adults within various services, including mental health and learning disability services.
For the past two decades my clinical focus, in leading a large diagnostic team and working with the Scottish Government at a strategic level, has primarily revolved around the identification and diagnosing of autistic adults.
Whilst in the NHS, I contributed to the improvement of autism services within the UK and was a co writer of SIGN 145, the national clinical guidelines for the assessment, diagnosis and interventions for autism spectrum disorders.
Throughout my career I worked in consultation with multiple NHS boards and provided training to 150+ clinicians across NHS Scotland in the use of DISCO, the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders, a leading clinical assessment tool.
Now through my own private practice and diagnostic assessments, I strive to uncover the core differences in thinking styles for autistic adults and their perception of the world we live in.
With an understanding of the impact late diagnosis on autistic adults can have, I am deeply passionate about my work.
If you or someone you know may be on the autism spectrum, I encourage you to reach out for a consultation and explore the possibilities of an assessment.
